History 2003

The CHL won five of six games against the Russians, with the lone loss coming in a 3-2 win over the QMJHL in Halifax.

The OHL stretch of the 2003 Canada Russia Challenge has entertained outstanding crowds, with 9,042 fans filling the John Labatt Centre in London for Game One and 4,504 fans nearly packing the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre for Game Two. The touring Russians lost the first two games 7-1 in London and 4-0 in Sarnia.

The QMJHL All-Stars featured sensational rookie Sidney Crosby, who has 53 points in his first 25 QMJHL games with the Oceanic. In game 4, Crosby assisted on three goals, including the game-winner midway through the third period to help Team QMJHL to a 6-3 win over the Russian Selects in the Canada Russia Challenge. The win gave the QMJHL a split in their two games after a 3-2 loss in Halifax.

Ryan Getzlaf of the Calgary Hitmen scored a goal and an assist in front of his home crowd to help the Western Hockey League to a 4-1 win over the Russian Selects in game five of the Canada Russia Challenge. The final game of the series had the WHL coast to a 7-1 victory over the Russians.
