CHL Announces centres to host ADT Canada/Russia Challenge Thursday - August 30, 2007
TORONTO - The Canadian Hockey League today announced details surrounding the 2007 ADT Canada/Russia Challenge that will be held in six CHL centres across the country in November.
The series will roll out across the country with two games in each regional league. The Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL will host the opening game of the 2007 ADT Canada/Russia Challenge on Monday, November 19 followed by the Gatineau Olympiques with the second game of the series on Wednesday, November 21. The Kitchener Rangers (Thursday, November 22) and Sudbury Wolves (Monday, November 26) will host the OHL leg of the series while the Kootenay Ice (Wednesday, November 28) and Medicine Hat Tigers (Thursday, November 29) of the WHL will conclude the series.
The ADT Canada/Russia Challenge features a team of CHL All-Stars representing each regional league that will compete against the Russian National Junior team. Each of the three regional league teams are selected by a committee of league General Managers that work with Al Murray, Hockey Canada"s head scout for the Canadian National Junior team.
All six games will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet with RDS televising both games from the QMJHL.
"The Canadian Hockey League is excited to host this series between two prestigious hockey countries," said CHL President David Branch. The participating CHL players recognize that the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge is the final step in the evaluation process for our National Junior Team and will be anxious for the opportunity to compete for a spot on the roster. With the Summer Evaluation Camp not taking place this season, the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge will have more importance than ever before. This event also provides a unique opportunity for our fans to watch world class junior players compete at a high level."
Last year the CHL won all six games of the series and Team Canada would later go on to defeat Russia to win the gold medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships. The CHL has won the past three ADT Canada/Russia Challenges and Team Canada has defeated Russia to win the gold medal in the past three World Junior Championships.
"ADT is proud to be the title sponsor of the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge and continue our relationship with the Canadian Hockey League for the fourth consecutive year. The series continues to be a highlight on the CHL schedule that is enjoyed by hockey fans across the country. We look forward to welcoming the Russian National team to Canadian soil yet again to participate in what we expect will be a spirited series," said Joe O"Connell, Regional Vice-President - Canada.
The 2007 ADT Canada/Russia Challenge is supported by CHL associate sponsors, Bank of Montreal, Boston Pizza & Reebok.
