QMJHL announces 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series roster

Thursday - October 22, 2009

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, October 22, 2009 – The Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Shawinigan Cataractes organizations, in collaboration with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League, today held simultaneous press conferences to announce the roster of Team QMJHL which will compete against Team Russia in the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series.

"The SUBWAY® Super Series plays a key role in the selection process of Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship and Under-18 Championship teams," said André Tourigny, the head coach of Team QMJHL.

Drummondville will host the first game of the series on Monday, November 16 at the Marcel-Dionne Centre while Shawinigan will host game two at the Bionest Centre on Wednesday, November 18. Then, Team Russia heads west to play two games versus the OHL and WHL All-Stars.

All six contests will be televised nationwide on Rogers Sportsnet starting at 7 pm (ET) while RDS will broadcast the two contests in Drummondville and Shawinigan.

Each of the three CHL member leagues (WHL, OHL & QMJHL) assembled a selection committee, which worked closely with Hockey Canada’s Chief Scout, Al Murray, to select the players for this year’s series. The QMJHL selection committee included Danny Flynn, the Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Moncton Wildcats; Martin Mondou, the General Manager of the Shawinigan Cataractes; Dominic Ricard, the General Manager of the Drummondville Voltigeurs; Marcel Patenaude, the QMJHL Vice-President, Hockey; and Pierre Leduc, the QMJHL Director of Hockey Operations.

A total of twenty-eight players will participate in the event this year. André Tourigny will announce the rosters for each game at a later date.
